A few cool things happened while I was on a blogger (semi) break. So I twittered it could not be helped, I am after all addicted to the tweet. While I was taking a break from here alot of things happened that were blog worthy.
1. My interview for Dane County Parents came out. On one of my numerous trips to the grocery store this weekend I noticed the fall issue was out. M and I did lil’ jumps in front of the store, M said “MAMA” and I said “Holy $hit that is a big picture.” Yes I cussed in front of my child, but in my defense it is a rather large picture, and if it makes you happy I will rinse my mouth out with soap.
My real mission was to give mommyblogging a good name. I am new to this cool club but I have met so many awesome women…like her and her and her and her… Moms who are too good for all that backlash. I think the article was pretty good!
2. I was interviewed for UW Whitewater’s Early Childhood Graduate Program. Nolan’s teacher asked me to sit on a small parents panel to answer questions about my experience with the early childhood program. It was weird because I was on camera, and although I am a Leo I tense up around the lens. They had questions about how we entered the program, what was our experience when we were told N diagnosis, IEP meetings and how we stay involved in the process.
My big point was, as a parent I am the front line in both my children’s education. I learned quick this year, in preschool, that when it comes to communicating N’s needs I must be the top of the chain. It is hard to expect so many people to communicate with each other, I am the barer of all the information and I must make sure it goes down the line.
As I was sitting there I listened to the other moms, and realized how lucky we had it. One mom’s child had C.P. and the other mom’s child had a brain tumor. This does not diminish our own battle but it was a soft reminder to count my blessings. In the end it felt good to help future educators.
3. After the weekend I learned another interview has paid off! I have my new job. I am a little excited, a little sad, a mixed bag of emotions. The money will help our lil’ family and the hours are just right. I start next week, wish me luck!

You are so correct that we are the best advocate for our children. I have done many IEP meetings as a teacher in the past, but nothing prepared me for being on the other side. Districts really do take it for granted that parents will just do what they say and not fight for their child(ren). Very sad indeed.
Congratulations on your new job. May I ask what you found since the hours are so great. I am looking for something PT, but not sure what to do since it has to be during hours when my husband will be home. Keep us posted on how your first day goes.
